Love God Greatly: Empowered

DAY 10 OF 40

Stephen is called the first Christian martyr, as his is the first recorded death for sharing the gospel. The people in the city were so angered by what Stephen said, with the truth he shared, they violently killed him. Stephen’s response to their actions was not one of fear or despair. Instead, Stephen responded with great forgiveness and great hope. ⁣

While we will not all necessarily see Jesus welcoming us into heaven right before we die, the Holy Spirit opened Stephen’s eyes to see this. It gave Stephen great comfort. Stephen was also so convinced of the power and saving work of Christ, he asked God to forgive his murderers. ⁣

Stephen’s death was no doubt a tragedy, but as we will see as we continue to study the Book of Acts, it was a turning point for the early church. Stephen’s death began a string of violent persecutions, but the deaths of the saints were not in vain. God values the lives and deaths of His followers. He provides comfort and hope to us when we need it most. ⁣

Lord God, thank You for so highly valuing the lives and deaths of Your servants. You always bring comfort and hope to me when I need it most. Help me to have courage and boldness like Stephen, always willing to share the truth, regardless of the consequences. Amen.

About this Plan

Love God Greatly: Empowered

Empowered: Yesterday and Today is a deep study of the book of Acts. As we study the early church and the spread of the gospel we hope to find encouragement and strength to continue spreading the message of the gospel in our spheres of influence. God empowered the early church to share the gospel every single day, and He does the same for us, even now.
