Fighting FOMO

DAY 12 OF 14

FOMO: The Voice of God

Voices are cool. They help you identify if it’s actually your mom on the other end of a phone call, if it’s Harry Styles slaying the runs in “Drag Me Down,” or if the person who walked up behind you and covered your eyes is really your friend (who’s low key trying to get hit).

God has a voice that is as clear as yours and mine, and He created us with the ability to hear it and read it in the Bible.

It's easy to believe God will punish us for "hearing Him wrong" or making the wrong choice, but the reality is we aren’t big enough to stand in the way of God’s will. When it comes to discerning God's voice, our choices are less about what we’re doing and more about who we’re becoming.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Though it can be challenging to know the difference between God’s voice, our own voice, or the voice of the enemy, God wants us to learn His voice.

Here are three ways you can hear God’s voice:

1. Know Him. If you don’t have a relationship with God, you won’t know His voice. There is a difference between knowing things about God and knowing Him.

2. Study the Bible. You can't miss the voice of God if you know the Word of God. His Word is His voice. The more you know His voice, the more you'll be able to recognize it.

3. Pray. God isn’t trying to trick you. If you want to know if it’s Him who’s speaking to you, ask Him.

What now?

Are you comparing what you hear/feel to God’s Word?

Are there godly people in your life that you can trust to help you discern if you’re hearing from God or not?

About this Plan

Fighting FOMO

FOMO. It’s what happens when everyone else’s great day stops us from enjoying our own. We’ll never find contentment when we’re constantly pursuing what might have been. Fighting FOMO was created by Fuse, the student ministry of NewSpring Church, to help students move past the fear of missing out and find joy in their present circumstances.
