Before the Resurrection

DAY 6 OF 7

Saturday is many people’s favorite day of the week. Many people take a break from work on Saturdays to have fun and relax. Saturday is a popular day.

There was one Saturday, though, that was not a good day. The Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday was a bad, tough day. Jesus had been killed, and His body was in a tomb. He was dead, the bad guys won, all hopes were dashed, and God was silent.

It is indeed a silent Saturday, but the reality of that Saturday was far different than what anyone thought at the time. Though everything seemed dark and God seemed silent on that Saturday, God was far from inactive. In fact, He was working in powerful ways. The defeat of death, Hell, corruption, and the grave was being accomplished. Prisoners were being set free, and the keys of the Kingdom were being procured. It was just that nobody could see or hear it. God seems to be silent, but that does not mean He is not working.

Silent Saturday has an important lesson for us. When God seems silent and all seems lost, do not forget that in those precise moments God may be doing His most powerful work. A contemporary song called “Waymaker” says, “Even when I don’t see it You’re working. Even when I can’t feel it You’re working. You never stop, You never stop working!” God may be, for the moment, silent, but that does not mean that He is inactive. We know that if the silence could speak, it would tell of glorious things that our God has been doing on our behalf.
