Incarnation

DAY 5 OF 8

Why does it matter that Jesus was fully God?

Only God can rescue humanity from the power of sin and restore his creation from the curse of the fall.

If you’d been on one of the dusty streets of Nazareth in 30 AD and heard one of Jesus’ parables, you might have thought that he was profound, but you wouldn’t have wondered whether or not he was human. That was obvious. After all, he was right there in front of you.

But believing that he was also fully God—when you’d seen him eat, sleep, get tired, and so on—would’ve been very challenging. After all, how does it make any sense to say that Jesus, who is fully human, is also fully God?

But it’s important to understand not only that Jesus was fully God but why it matters.

It matters because, unless Jesus is fully God, he can’t fully reveal God and he can’t fully save humanity. Because only God can reveal God. And only God can save humanity. Only someone who is totally without sin can pay the penalty for our sin once and for all.

As you read the Scriptures today, take note of how Jesus reveals God and how Jesus came to save humanity.
