God likes being remembered
Do you have lots of things to remember? Some people write lists when they need to remember things, or they repeat them over and over to memorise the information.
When we remember people we love, we often recall other aspects of time spent with them as well. When I remember my Granny, I think of the big hugs she gave me and her loving words. I also recall the smell of the soap she used, and the aroma of her freshly baked ginger biscuits that were always ready to be enjoyed when I arrived at her home.
Remembering people we love also means we remember their names and important times, like their birthdays.
God remembers us. It says in the Bible that God has engraved our names on the palm of His hand (Isaiah 49:16). This is a way of saying God will never forget us. Psalm 139 is a song all about God remembering us and knowing us from the time we were formed in our mother’s womb.
I don’t ever want to forget God’s love and I’m so thankful there are special ways I can remember God. The Bible says that when we talk to God in prayer it’s a way to remember God and that it smells like sweet burning incense to God (Revelation 8:3–4).
God also gave us another way to remember the love He showed through Jesus. We call this communion. Taking bread and grape juice (wine) with others helps us to think about God’s love for us and remember that love together.
We also have special events in our calendar to remember God’s love for us. We celebrate Jesus’ birthday at Christmas, and in many churches there are other festivals that are celebrated along with Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.
Prayer
Thank you, God that you remember me
Thank you that you have made me to remember
Help me to take time to remember the people I love today
I take time now to remember your love for me. Thank you for loving me
Amen
