40acts: Ready to Actનમૂનો
Act 29: Watch for Traffick
Galatians 5:1 tells us that it is ‘for freedom’ that ‘Christ has set us free’. This means simply what it means – God wants us free! Free from any expectation or oppression.
For the vast majority of us reading these verses, these words won’t mean more than that incredible spiritual, emotional, and mental reality. For some, however, there is a crushing physical and material reality to it too. There is now more slavery in the world than there ever has been, despite the sense that our world has moved on.
God is clear about the reality of slavery as injustice. In 1 Timothy, slave traders are counted among those who run contrary to the gospel of glory. So we know, then, that the inverse is true: if slavery runs against glory, then freedom is something glorious that God wants for us. There is a weight of glory on every moment that someone in sex traffic is set free. There is a weight of God’s glory on police exposure of forced labour in your town or city. God’s glory is all around every moment chains are broken off the enslaved.
Shining a light on what’s hidden is what God does, but he does it with our partnership. Our prayer is needed. Our action is needed. What we do today with this knowledge matters. How can you pray, along with others at your church? How can you make it a priority to partner with agencies changing the odds on sex trafficking in your town? Some can do much, and some can do little, but all work for freedom is important.
About this Plan
40acts is a 47-day generosity challenge that seeks to re-frame Lent as a time of 'giving out' instead of giving up. This year our theme for 40acts is 'Ready to Act'. Join us as we embark on a 47-day journey of generosity, following the wise instruction given to us in the book of Proverbs. The plan is 47 days long as it includes 7 Sunday reflections.
