Think About the Things You Think About

DAY 6 OF 7

Um, for Real—Think About the Way You Think About Yourself

Yesterday, you were challenged to think about yourself the way God thinks about you. You learned that you might need to silence your inner critic.

It might take more than one day to learn that skill—especially if you’ve been thinking negative thoughts about yourself for a while.

Watch this video and learn about the kinds of thoughts you can listen to whenever your inner critic is yapping away inside your mind.

Yes! This is the path toward thinking the kinds of thoughts God thinks about you. Be compassionate to yourself. God is compassionate toward us. Stop beating yourself up for everything you do wrong. Forgive yourself and move on in freedom.

Stop beating yourself up for all the ways you think you should be different. It’s great to want to change from sinful thoughts and ways. It’s great to want to be more like Jesus! But it’s never—ever—great to compare yourself to others and get down on yourself over what you see that’s “different.”

And, just like the video said, if you ever have trouble finding something good to praise God for about the way He made you, talk to someone! Find a trusted adult and ask them what they see in you that’s godly and praiseworthy. Ask a friend why they like being your friend. Use their answers to help hush that inner critic.

Ask yourself: Is it easier for me to be compassionate toward others or myself? How can I begin to love the way God made me even just a little bit more today?

Challenge yourself: You know the drill. Grab your journal. Write something you’re grateful for. It has to be from today. Oh! And again, it has to be something you’re grateful for about the way God made you. Nope. Just doing that yesterday wasn’t enough! You’re a unique creation made by the greatest Artist who ever existed. You can write two things you’re thankful for about the way He made you! Don’t forget to put today’s date by it.

Pray: God, thank You, again, for the way You chose to make me. Help me to see the good in the way You created me. Help me to be compassionate toward myself when my inner critic is sounding just like the voice of my spiritual enemy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
