Day 3: Change Your Perspective
Vision is always a product of your perspective.
But what is perspective? Let’s think of it as a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something or seeing something.
And what is attitude? It’s a choice. You choose the attitude you have, which means that perspective is the way you CHOOSE to view the world around you.
Your perspective isn’t just what God implants into your heart and mind, though the things we learn about Him through Scripture and practice certainly influence and guide that perspective. No, perspective is all about the way YOU choose to see the things in your life.
There’s an old story that touches on this. In the story, three bricklayers are all working together on the same job. Along comes a nosy bystander who asks them what they’re doing. The first bricklayer responds simply, “I’m laying bricks.” The second, who has a slightly broader perspective, says, “I’m putting up a wall.” But the third tops them all when he says, “I’m constructing a grand cathedral.”
All three of these bricklayers were engaged in the same work, but only one had the vision for what he was actually doing.
Which one are you? Are you the one who just lays bricks? Whose perspective is simply about doing the next thing and the next and the next? Or are you the second one, who has a grander vision about their life but who won’t step far enough back to see the complete picture. He’s content to stop at the wall. Neither of these perspectives is harmful or unwholesome, but they ARE limited.
Would you dare to be the third bricklayer, the one with the vision-altering perspective?
Will you take the risk to take a step back, choose your perspective, and get a cathedral-seeing vision for your life?
How can you do that today?
