Rooted In Christ: Your Identity In Christ
“Who am I?” That’s a question that people ask themselves at times in their lives and finding the right answer to this question after you know Who Jesus is, is important.
From the time we’re born there are things and people that can influence and basically work to try and shape who we are in some way. Sometimes we’re also our own enemy as we speak and believe lies about ourselves and take to heart harsh things that people say or the unnecessary drama through which we allow things and people to “define us” that should not because they don’t!
What you need to know is that your identity lies beyond the things you see, feel, hear, and experience in this world as well as what you think sometimes.
Your identity and worth are not found in what you do, what you look like including how good of shape you are or aren’t in, the wealth you do or don’t accumulate, or the opinions of other people. Your identity and worth is found in Who you belong to and His name is Jesus…the one who gave His life for you!
You need to daily seek to be rooted, established, and built up in Jesus Christ and not the people and things of this world. As you continue to grow in your relationship with Him, He will show and remind you that you are secure, accepted, and significant in Him.
God made you in His image and breathed life into you. There is only one you! You are an original, hand crafted by God and you need not pursue being anyone else but yourself, the person He is shaping and molding you to become.
Have you ever used a potter’s wheel? The clay doesn’t tell the potter I’m going to be this or that, no, the creator is the one who shapes and molds the clay into their masterpiece! This is the same with how God defines you and your identity in Him. You are God’s masterpiece and He’s shaping and molding you and your identity.
If you truly want to become firmly rooted, built up, and establishes in Christ then you will find your identity in Him alone because there is no other way to become rooted a part of Him.
Questions to get started with:
- How is knowing your true identity in Christ connected to becoming rooted, built up, and established in faith?
- Where do you find and define your worth? People? Possessions? Yourself?
- What does being secure, accepted, and significant in Christ really mean?
