The denial of rejection
In 1946, Akio Morita and some of his colleagues started a company by the name of “Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering” in a bomb-affected shop in Tokyo.
In 1955, Morita’s company made the world's first portable transistor radio (a transistor radio that could be carried everywhere). An American company, Bulova, made an offer to buy the radios at a tempting price, but the agreement bothered Morita. According to the agreement, Bulova would sell all radios under the name of Bulova.
Morita wanted his company’s name to have meaning and influence. Even though the agreement could provide an injection of large funds for his company that was struggling to survive, Morita decided to reject the agreement and speak to the executives from Bulova, "I am taking my first steps for the next fifty years for this company. "
Finally, Morita’s company continued to be one of the success stories in the business world. In addition to transistor radios, they also made the world's first VCR (video cassette player and recorder) and small digital disc player (compact disc player).
Unintentionally, when Morita refused an agreement with Bulova, he changed the name of his company to SONY.
In a simple explanation, the leader is someone who knows where he wants to go, and stands and walks (John Erksine)
Reflection: One of the skills needed from leaders is the ability to make important decisions at critical times. Of course, it's not easy to do that. To make the right decision, a leader must equip himself with all the important information. More than all human wisdom, a leader must submit his decisions to God, who will help him to make the most appropriate and good decision.
