In All Circumstances

DAY 6 OF 12

She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life.

This verse is powerful. Just sit and think on it for a minute, “She brings him good, not harm”…those are life-changing words. Solomon is talking about a husband/wife relationship. Are your words towards your husband uplifting and encouraging words? Does your husband feel safe when he is around you? Does he know you are “FOR” him, not against him?

We can put our “mommy” hat on and end up treating our husbands as if they are our children; we can boss them, scold them, and even correct them. But, in fact, they are not our children–they already have a mom; they don’t need two moms. No, our husband is our friend, companion, lover, provider, and should be the closest person in our lives.

As you go about your day, notice what kinds of words are coming out of your mouth, specifically towards your husband. Do your words build your husband up, or are they emasculating words? Emasculate means to make weaker or less effective according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Do your words weaken your husband or make him a better man, leader, father, or husband? It’s hard to examine within you, but it needs to be examined. We think we can say anything to our spouse, but, in reality, we shouldn’t. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, and sometimes we need to exhibit self-control with our words.

A man can only take so many negative words, and when he has hit his limit, he will tune you out completely or worse…find another person who will build him up instead of cut him down. Be careful. Be a wife who brings good to her husband all the days of her life.

Father,

This verse is eye-opening for me, Lord. I love my husband, but I have to admit, that sometimes I do treat him like he is another one of my children. That is wrong of me and I am going to change my behavior, but I need your help. I do lose my temper and get frustrated with him; give me patience and self-control. You alone know what my husband needs from me; teach me…I am a willing student…I want to learn.
