ACTS ~ Introduction

DAY 2 OF 4

Power of God’s Spirit

The book of Acts is a historical record of how the good news of Christ spread between 33 AD to well before 70 AD. In a short span, Christ was known, especially within the Roman Empire. By the 3rd century it was more politically advantageous to be known as a follower of Christ.

How was that possible at a time when there were no phones, radios, television or when travel was limited to ships, camels, horses and donkeys?

One cannot deny the POWER of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:2 (NIV) until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

Acts 1:5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;

The word power is ‘dunamis’ in Greek, from which we also get the word dynamite. It is explosive power- miraculous power!

The amazing response of people to the person of Christ was primarily because of the POWER of the Holy Spirit. Great programs, talented personalities or extraordinary funding weren’t the reasons for the rapid expansion of the church, but it was that total dependence on His Holy Spirit.

May the power of God’s Holy Spirit be our primary source of strength to accomplish His will.
