Beacon: Finding the Light
Just as Paul recounted his own struggles, we strive daily to put our flesh to death. In considering this struggle with the flesh, he said in Romans 7:5 NIV, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”
Temptations are all about us. This world is full of them. In these tempting times, we know that our faith is being tested. On the other side of saying, ‘Yes’ to those temptations is where the dark waters await. John chapter 10:10 NIV, says this, “The thief (satan) comes to steal and kill and destroy – But I (Jesus Christ) come so that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” Jesus said to the disciples, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation but take courage; I have overcome the world."
As sure as there are stars in the sky and wind that blows throughout the year, there will be troubles…there will be temptations and trials. Yet, just as the oceans span miles upon miles, beyond the distance that eyes can see; the Father’s love for you spans beyond that for His children! He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the way, the truth, and the life. He was sent to save the children of God. In His role as The Way, Jesus shines brightly as our Beacon of Hope amid these troubled waters, shining Light upon the path that we are to follow, directing us home every step of the way. But how does one find the Beacon? We must choose in our hearts to seek God first and accept the salvation that Jesus Christ provides us through His sacrifice.
We must choose to turn away from all temptations in full repentance of any and all sins given into and with a submissive and sorrowful heart. We ask for His forgiveness in Jesus Christ, our Beacon. Then, we choose to follow the Beacon, daily choosing (sometimes moment by moment) to seek God and His cleansing and renewing Light. That Light is shining as a Beacon before us while we also reject evil and abhor that which is sinful and of this world that lurks in the dark waters. We are slaves to sin, no more, through the blood of Jesus Christ.
In Him, we have Hope. In Him, we find His strength to overcome. In Him, we are a new creation. The old things have passed away – Behold the new has come! In Him, we find the Light!
