DAY 4 OF 5

Sabbath

When’s the last time you felt tired? Worn out?

You are not a machine. You can’t go nonstop. If you never set aside time to rest, eventually, something will break. The stress will get to you. The low-grade anxiety becomes the norm. Your productivity goes down and what little time you do have free gets dedicated to Netflix because, well, you just need an escape.

God rested.

God could work non-stop if he wanted to. However, God sets and example of how you and I should live. He shows us how to live the best life, and taking time to rest is part of that plan.

We have to slow down.

Sabbath is time for us to rest and recharge. It’s a time to sit in contentment and gratitude for the things God’s given us. It’s a time to stop doing, stop achieving, and simply be - a time to be with God, with family, with friends, and with our own thoughts. And, ultimately, Sabbath is an act of trust. It’s trusting that God can take care of things without you. For one day, God will take care of your ministry, your needs, and the long list of to-do’s that plague your mind.

Without taking time to slow down and rest, we will burn out and burn out fast.

How are you feeling in this season? Are you tired? Worn out? Still full of energy but quickly being depleted? Still on full?

Do you view Sabbath as a gift or an inconvenience?

What does rest currently look like for you? What needs to change as we go into this next season?

About this Plan

Closer

Many people treat spiritual disciplines or practices as optional. And yet, for Jesus and His earliest followers, these practices were part of their everyday lives. If we truly desire to follow Jesus and become more like Him, we cannot ignore the very practices Jesus Himself modeled for us.
