Leadership Ignitedનમૂનો
Creating Spiritual Community at Work
In Genesis 1 God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness ...” (Gen 1:26 NIV) One of the many implications of the incredible fact that we’re made in the image of a triune God is that we’re made for relationships, to be known by others – for community. Community ignites leadership that we could not achieve on our own.
One of the indelible aspects to work – as it was originated in creation and in our own experience now – is that it is done in community: with others, for others, and for the benefit of others. It is the most natural thing in the world to desire community at work. Community is crucial for work to be done according to God’s purposes, yet it is rare that we experience life-giving community at work.
In this age of digital communication when people are able to connect virtually with more people across the globe than we ever imagined possible, people also experience an unprecedented degree of isolation. A strong Spirit-led community at work can be a source of strength, accountability and wisdom.
Here are a few simple habits you can develop that will help you succeed at creating community at work.
- Invite someone to coffee. Take time to learn more about that person’s interests, what they are working on and how you can support them.
- Walk the floor. Take a few minutes to get up from your desk and visit with a coworker. Ask for their input on an idea you’re working on or ask them about a project they are working on. A small investment can create meaningful connection.
- Offer prayer. If someone shares a challenge they’re facing, offer to pray with them. You may be surprised at how much that prayer is appreciated.
- Start a small group study. Workmatters offers several workplace resources that can help you and your coworkers grow as leaders by applying biblical principles.
We can all benefit from a strong community. Our growth as leaders depends on it. Community done well is a catalyst for igniting the leadership of everyone on your team.
Prayer
Lord, equip me to be a catalyst for spiritual community at work. Give me courage and wisdom to be an example and help others be the leaders you created them to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
