DISCIPLINE: How You Get There And Stay There
Definition of "discipline": Training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character.
Have you ever set a goal and didn’t achieve it? Or have you tried different kinds of habit building methods, apps…still you found it challenging to establish the habits you desire?
It’s because most of the systems out there approach from “Outside in." They use the WHAT and HOW to define your WHO - your identity.
The outermost ring represents the WHAT - the outcome and result we are pursuing. The middle one is the HOW - the process and systems we use to get there. The smallest and inner ring is the WHO, the very core of WHY we do what we do - the identity!
Here’s the thing: God is NOT out to change our actions: He cares much more about renewing our minds —where the true and sustainable transformation takes place!
The “world” system in the business context, starts from the outermost ring first, setting goals and deadlines. Next it is to choose systems and methods to try to achieve the goals without addressing what kind of business leaders we’d like to become. We try to drive the result from external and limited resources. This is “outside in” when we should focus on “inside out.”
In the entrepreneurial journey, often we have to deal with the “valley of disappointments.” The actions we take in these moments are the ones that separate the successful entrepreneurs from the unsuccessful ones because they stem from the core of who we are and who we want to become, not from the outcome goals.
If you have been following those WHAT driven methods and failed, now you know it’s not YOU as a person: it is the approach.
So here’s the “inside- out” approach instead:
Understand who you are in Christ by meditating on God’s word daily.
Align yourself with the kinds of business leaders God desires you to become in THIS SEASON by communing with Him daily to receive clarity.
Have business meetings with Jesus often —you decide the frequency, to set the business goals based on WHOM you want to become.
Choose the proper methods to execute the plan accordingly.
Take small actions daily to establish new habits.
Focus on renewing your mind to enter the next level of leadership, and you will achieve the goals as the byproduct. (Romans 12:2)
