Living Changed: Conversations With Godનમૂનો
Big Prayers
Most people could tell you what they’d wish for if they had three wishes. But for some reason, we don’t ask for big things in prayer.
God isn’t a genie in a bottle who’s waiting to give us exactly what we want, when we want it. But He does answer big prayers. He parted the Red Sea, made the sun stand still, and brought the dead to life. We have proof throughout the Bible that God performs miracles, but we don’t live like we know we can ask for them.
Sometimes we don’t ask because we’re afraid of being disappointed. Or when we don’t see immediate results, we stop asking. But sometimes we don’t ask because we don’t want to surrender control and acknowledge we can’t do it on our own.
The thing is, without bold prayers, we can’t recognize when miracles happen. And if we don’t ask in faith for big things, God can’t get the glory when they come.
He performs big and small miracles every day. As we begin to recognize His movements, we’re able to look back on our lives and see God’s faithfulness. By praying big prayers, we’re able to see God as a powerful Father who wants to give us good gifts.
But our mountains don’t always move. And it’s not because we didn’t ask for it or believe in it enough. Sometimes God chooses to move in ways we don’t understand or expect.
My family asked and believed for my sister-in-law to be healed, and we were devastated when she died. But we forget that God did heal her. Not in the way we wanted, but how He chose to do it. He took her home and healed her completely, not just partially or temporarily.
Sometimes God moves a mountain an inch a day, and sometimes He moves it a foot in a moment. We don’t get to decide the timing or the outcome, but we can choose to trust in His goodness and faithfulness. We can continue to ask in faith and believe that He can and will answer our big prayers.
Practice- Ask God to show you something you desire that can’t be done without His help. Don’t be afraid to be specific and ask for the seemingly impossible. Begin to pray for it consistently and watch for God’s response.
