Like a Shining Light

A police officer’s random act of kindness to a stranger went viral on Facebook after a tourist secretly photographed him delivering socks and boots to a barefoot man on the streets of New York City. The officer’s generosity and kindness became a shining light for the world to see.

You, too, have the ability to make a difference in another person’s life — to give generously through random acts of kindness, to forgive those who have wronged you, and to be grateful for all your blessings.

When Jesus — the Light of the World — walked the earth, he performed acts of love and compassion for the oppressed and lowly, as well as for those who were wealthy and influential. He never considered what was in it for him. Jesus’ goal was to glorify his Father. Consider what your goals in life are? What is God calling you to do to make a difference?

Giving generously opens your heart to others. It takes the focus off of your own problems.

Forgiveness restores fellowship with Jesus. Bitterness steals joy, but forgiveness allows you to walk in freedom. Forgiveness doesn’t justify wrongdoings, but it releases your offenders so they no longer control your emotions.

Gratitude creates a joyful heart. When you realize how blessed you are, you can freely bless others. Consider your blessings, big and small, and thank the Lord for them all.
