The NIV 365-Day Devotional Reading Plan

DAY 317 OF 365

Looking Back

There were several men and women in the Bible who were known for their faith. Abraham, Ruth and Job are a few examples. We need to remember they dealt with issues just like us. Their days of parenting were filled with challenges and trials of all kinds. They made it through because of their faith and their hope and belief in what could not be seen.

This is all part of the wonders of the world of parenting. Remember, you will not see your child’s full potential in the middle of a temper-tantrum. When they snub their nose at you, it will be difficult to imagine their potential for Christ. In those moments, faith will have to hold you to the duty that is parenting.

When we look back at the saints of the Bible, it’s in retrospect that we see clearly. We may never visibly see the plan God has for our children, but by faith we trust that when we look back from the eternal view, it will have all been worthwhile. As Hebrews 11:1 teaches, we need to do all this with confidence. That is a reflection of a life dedicated to honoring Christ.

Parenting Principle

Learning to believe in what is unseen is called faith.

Points to Ponder

*How have you developed your faith?

*When do you or your children struggle with faith?

*How are you helping your children develop theirs?
