Debt Free: God's Promise, Our Duty & Your Freedom

DAY 3 OF 7

“Sacrifice is a part of life. It's supposed to be. It's not something to regret. It's something to aspire to.” ― Mitch Albom

2 Samuel 24 pulls us into a desperate situation. A vicious plague entered the land of Israel and has killed tens of thousands of people. King David is at a loss, confused and conscience-stricken (since it was partly his sin which brought about the plague). Thankfully, the prophet Gad heard a word from the Lord which tells David to do one thing for the plague to be gone: sacrifice.

So David goes to the place God commanded, meets the servant Araunah, and proceeds to offer his sacrifice. Almost immediately God answers his prayer and we are told at the end of verse 25, “the plague on Israel was stopped.”

The dictionary defines sacrifice as “an act of giving something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important.”

The question is, how much do you value your freedom?

How important is it that you are able to walk fully, boldly, and unequivocally in the called life God has for you?

What are you willing to sacrifice in order to achieve these things?

King David says a powerful statement about true sacrifice in 2 Samuel 24:24. When Araunah offers to give the King what he needs for free, David refuses and insists he must pay because, “I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”

What are you praying big for? What mountain of debt are you asking God to eliminate?

Now, what are you willing to sacrifice to see those prayers answered?
