Combating Anxiety With God's Word

DAY 3 OF 14

Isn't it crazy how we all seem to struggle with anxiety in this day and time? Over the years, I have tried several solutions to whatever my mind might bring to light, but the most effective, and at the same time the most difficult solution for my daily worries is the Biblical solution.

The Word of God gives us so much more than just a sentence to get us though our hardships. The key to the Biblical solution, however, is that we have to do the work. We can't just sit back and expect God to wave a magic wand and help us. Part of the blessing of anxiety and worry is that it will drive us closer to our Creator, if we let it.

When we are struggling with worry, the first step, as we see in verse 6 is to pray about it.  How often do we bring our worries to God first?  I have a tendency to bring it to my girlfriends, my family, my church group, before I take it to the Lord. God wants us to depend on Him; He wants to be the first place we turn when we are facing a difficulty.  After we bring our requests to God, we must have gratitude.

How often do we expect things to be resolved, prayers to be answered, without thanking God beforehand? When we are heavenly-minded, we see that our troubles are temporary. We remember what Christ did for us on the Cross, and what we seem to face in our daily lives, suddenly becomes minimal. When we remember and we understand the sovereignty of God, we can rest in the fact that God has our lives in His hands, which is, in fact, the peace that passes all understanding.
