Simple, But Not Easy: Living The Truth Of The Gospel

DAY 4 OF 5

The Image of Christ

Want to look like Christ? Setting yourself in the center of God’s worktable is a great start, but it is not enough. You have to let God work on you. Not only that, but you have to assist in the process, handing Him the chisel, the knife, the hammer, and welcoming whatever alterations He chooses to make.

How?

Embrace the truth of God’s Word, the Bible, including the Gospel. Read it for understanding, spend time thinking about what it has to do with you, and commit it to memory. When the time is right, the Holy Spirit will use whatever part of the Bible you have made the effort to absorb to speak to you. Sometimes, He’ll use what you have learned to show you where your thoughts, attitudes, and/or behavior don’t match up to God’s will and character so you can course correct with His help. Sometimes, He’ll use it to encourage and affirm your obedience. Sometimes, He’ll use it to help you make sense of what’s going on around you, and sometimes, He’ll use it to guide your words and actions so you can glorify God and advance His Kingdom.

Whatever the case, the more truth you know, the more effectively you’ll be able to live it. More often than not, a Christian who stumbles and stalls out in the process of transformation does so because they are not fueling themselves with the truth they have committed to live.

How about you? Are you spending consistent time in God’s Word? Are you memorizing it?

Do your Bible study habits give the Holy Spirit a broad vocabulary to draw from in His communication with you, or does your lack of discipline limit what could be?

Is the advice that you give your brothers and sisters in Christ based on the truth of God’s Word or human wisdom?

What, if anything, needs to change? What would that look like?

About this Plan

Simple, But Not Easy: Living The Truth Of The Gospel

Although simpler and, in some parts of the world, less dangerous, living the life God calls us to isn’t any easier today than it was for early Christians. Thankfully, in the apostle Paul we have a skilled teacher who is able to explain how the whole process works. Ultimately, the decision is yours alone to make. Will you live the truth?
