God Conversations: 7 Days to Hearing God’s Voiceનમૂનો
Ears to Hear: Why Do Some People Hear from God while Others Don’t?
Why do some people hear from God, while others don’t?
Is it because God plays favorites? Is it for those who are spiritually sensitive—the mystical types; or the ones who are specially gifted in that area? Or is it only for the pastors and the leaders—those who are theologically educated and really need to hear from God?
Sadly, the Pharisees—the religious leaders of Jesus’ day—studied their Bibles and followed the rules better than anyone, but Jesus said that they had never heard his voice. We don’t hear God’s voice because of our abilities, intelligence, or even our clever theology. The ability to hear from God is directly related to the state of our hearts. As the Apostle Paul describes it, we see with the ‘eyes of our heart.’ This involves seeking to know God and put him first.
When Jesus was on earth, he often used stories or ‘parables’ in his teaching. In these cases, he wouldn’t always give the punch line, instead finishing his message with the phrase; “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Of course, some walked away not understanding what he had said. But others were hungry enough to come back and seek an explanation.
It’s that kind of hunger that God is looking for. He wants us to ask him questions and then stay long enough to listen for his answers. That means, every morning when we wake up; “What are you saying today God?” On the way to work; “Speak to me.” In worship, “Lord, I’m listening.” He is looking for people whose hearts are tuned in to listen; those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
Reflect: How is it possible that the Pharisees who faithfully studied the Scriptures and tried to follow all the rules had never heard God’s voice?
Prayer: Lord, I want to know and follow you. Give me ears to hear and eyes to see as I position my heart to hear your voice. Please speak to me.
