DAY 3 OF 5

Discover Your Purpose

Consider the following three elements in the process of living your dream:

• Your passion—what you love doing

• A dream—your greatest ambition

• Your purpose—how you are going to fulfill the dream

Passion and purpose fit together like a hand in a glove. If you want to know what your purpose is, you need to discover your passion.

Knowing your purpose will help you to understand your passion. Purpose is that for which you were born, the reason you have been put on earth. Knowing your purpose will enable you to use and understand your gifts and talents. Purpose energizes—you will then do the things that you are supposed to be doing and not be busy with unnecessary things that sap your energy. You will experience a new energy, joy and satisfaction in what you do.

People who have purpose are in touch with their natural love and therefore have an inner drive to succeed and fulfill their destiny. They see their dreams realized, with the understanding that success is a journey, not a destination.

1. What are the things that you are good at? (Here we are focusing on your skills, abilities and talents rather than personality traits.)

2. Ask someone close to you what they see as your strengths. What gifts and talents do they notice when they look at you?

3. Use the format below to write down your purpose.

• Use a verb to describe your purpose e.g. to serve, teach, write, counsel or create.

• Then choose a noun to describe who or what e.g. children, the elderly, the poor, teenagers.

• Include skills or talents you will use, as well as your passion e.g. singing, the ability to explain something, reading or being a good athlete.

• Include the outcomes you want—what you want to achieve as a result of the above.
