UNCOMMEN: Father Figuresનમૂનો
David: Father of Solomon
What I love about David is he’s every man. He has his days when he is just killing it in the name of God. Then he has days in which he is so far out of the will of God he has to dress in sackcloth and throw himself on the ground to beg for forgiveness. Does that sound familiar? If you are truthful with yourself, you’d say, “yes, that’s me!” Heck, you may even shout it for all the world to hear.
But for all of David’s flaws, God described him as, “a man after my heart, who will do all my will.” Whenever I hear that statement quoted by someone, it’s always only, “ David was a man after God’s own heart.” They leave out the part where God says, “which shall fulfill all my will.” As powerful as being a man after God own heart is, fulfilling "all my will" seems even bigger.
You and I were saved from our sin for a purpose. That purpose is to do ALL the will of the Father. That list is long indeed, but let’s dial into David’s role as a Dad. For all the great things David did in the name of God, he was not allowed to build God's temple. The reason was that David had spilled too much blood and was a man of war. The strange part was, David was called to be just that by God, and that became the reason God forbid him to build his temple.
God told David that his son Solomon was going to be the one to build God’s temple. I wonder how David took that news internally. Was he bitter? Jealous?
Are you ready to do all that God commands you including invest in your children only to see them called to do something that you may have wanted to do? You have your holy purpose, and your children have theirs. Be supportive, encouraging and prayerful toward your children as that may be just what God is calling you to do.
I hope both of my sons do far greater things in the name of God than I ever thought about doing. I hope they'll be men after God’s own heart and are willing to fulfill ALL of God’s will.
