PROTECTION - Day 3
Yesterday, we learned that we can trust God to protect us even when we are not aware that we are in danger. Today's verses speak of a more active danger, direct attacks by an enemy or evil spirits. According to one biblical scholar, the terror of night and the arrow that flies by day refer to demonic forces known to the Israelites in Egypt. The imagery of the pestilence and the plague goes back to the time of Israel's slavery. God delivered the children of Israel from all of the 10 plagues that Moses declared against Egypt.
God will protect us and deliver us from every attack. His deliverance may mean that we still face trials, but Jesus said: “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” (Matt. 10:28). When God protects us—his children—we know that we are safe. Even if we suffer persecution and physical death, nothing can snatch us out of God's powerful and loving hands.
When enemies directly attack us we can remain at peace, knowing that God himself is our shield and our fortress. Lift the name of Jesus over your situation, knowing that the name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run in and find shelter there (Prov. 18:10). Remember that we don't have to act—you will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.” God will act on your behalf. God will defend his children. “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will accomplish for you today. (Exodus 14:13).
About this Plan
In his ‘Letter to Marcellinus’, Athanasius of Alexandria (4c) said, “Most Scripture speaks to us; the Psalms speak for us." This devotional contains a selection from the Psalms. Through these selections, we hope to show that nothing is off limits when it comes to prayer. Anything and everything, even things that come from the darkest parts of our hearts, can be brought to God. He listens!
