Tradition holds that Jude was one of Jesus’ brothers, and his brief letter is appropriately tied to John’s letters, as they all address the problem of false teachers in the church. But Jude is even more fired up about this issue than John, painting a dark but clear picture of the judgment awaiting such ungodly people. For us, it simply means that we must take the truth about Christ seriously, seeking to know it, to defend it, and to live consistently with it.

As you read the heart of the letter, where Jude describes these “shameless shepherds who care only for themselves,” turn around the folly of these bogus pastors and create a profile for how we should live as faithful followers of Christ (see vv. 4, 8, 16, 18-19). And look closely at Jude’s positive encouragement in verses 20-23. What stands out to you there that is something you can make a fresh commitment to in helping others to stay strong in their faith?

Finally, be encouraged by Jude’s closing word of praise (vv. 23-24), and feel free to adapt it for your own time of worship - Jude won’t mind!
