When Jesus gathered his close followers, he endowed them with power [dunamis] and authority over all evil spirits and to heal ailments, tasking them to spread the word of God’s realm and to tend to the ill. —Luke 9:1–2
The story of a soldier during the Civil War who experienced great loss is one that has stayed with me. He lost both his father and brother and sought leave from his duties to help his mother and their farm. However, when he tried to gain entry to the White House, he was turned away. It was then that he met a young boy who showed him compassion and led him straight into the Oval Office, where he could speak to President Abraham Lincoln and get the help he needed. The boy was the President's son, Tad Lincoln. Through Tad's authority as being the President's son, the soldier's circumstances changed for the better. In a similar way, as Christians, we are given authority through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Luke 9, Jesus sends his followers with his own authority and the Holy Spirit's power to fulfill their mission.
As followers of Christ, we are called to embody God's authority and to address the needs of others in His name. It's important to consider whose authority guides our actions- our own, someone else's, or God's. By embracing God's authority, we can make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Prayer: Lord, let the Holy Spirit overcome my self-centered tendencies or apprehensions, making me a vessel of your dunamis power and authority in today’s world. Amen.
Prayer-Hold:(to keep in mind through the day) "Today, may I walk in the confidence of being sent with His authority, a bearer of the dunamis power that opens doors and hearts."
