The Lie Detector Test

I am a lie detector. Seriously. I can sniff out a lie in a heartbeat. Not because I’m good at lying myself. I’m actually not that great of a liar. I’m very honest and transparent, but more than that, people find me easy to trust. So I could lie as much as I wanted and people would probably believe me.

If you have a reputation of being an honest person, people are much more likely to believe anything you say. I’d never betray that trust by being dishonest especially when it comes to important situations and my most valuable relationships. I often know who has lied to me or omitted pertinent information, and I generally choose not to call them out on it. What’s done in the dark will likely come to the light so I strategically wait, pray and let the lie be exposed - or not - because God can still choose to grant grace to a liar in those moments of dishonesty and deceit.

On the other hand, however, I also know when I’m being told the truth. The law of sowing and reaping is real and I believe my honesty has won a fair exchange of truth within my interactions, and that the dishonest behavior or hidden truth that others have used to deceive me will return back to them in way, shape or form. So I think the reason I can detect lies or sense when important details are being left out or have a strong sense that I’m being deceived is solely attributed to discernment. This is the kind of discernment that only God can give. It’s the kind of discernment that only comes through the devotion and dedication to listening to the Holy Spirit so much that you can decipher a truth from a lie. Because most times when someone has been dishonest with me whether personally and professionally, God will reveal it. That might sound weird to you but I’ve gotten a hunch on many things when someone had not so good intentions toward me, or I sensed some dishonesty in our communication, or something was being hidden or had been done without my knowledge - and every time God shows me or He blocks it or He removes me, or even removes the liar and their access to me.

Also as a professional communicator, I am trained to study words, their function and their impact - whether verbal or nonverbal. I am groomed to ask questions, ask them repeatedly, and ask them in such a way that I get the most insightful and authentic answer possible. There’s a finesse that people like me have with words - the kind of finesse that the average person most likely won’t have - so when we hear words we instinctively suspect, analyze and assign their value. How valuable is what I’m hearing? How factual is it? Is there more to the story? And what relevance does it hold for me and others who might hear it? I find words intriguing, moreso the conversations and interactions that words build and carry deep meaning. Nothing is face value, there’s always more beneath the surface. So when I am being lied to or information is being withheld, I’ll often know it. For sure.

You may not be a wordsmith like me who is trained to analyze words and their meanings, but when it comes to lies it doesn’t really matter. Detecting a lie often comes down to one thing—trusting your God-given instincts. And if that's the case, I wonder how many of us can detect our own lies. Not only the ones you tell others, but the ones you tell yourself as well. Detecting the lie means comparing what you hear and say with what is found in God’s word. His word is the ultimate lie detector test able to reveal, dispute, contest and correct any lie that comes against the declaration of God.

Answer these questions and reflect on your answers:

What lies have you been told? How did you discover you were being lied to?

What lies have you told yourself? Which lies do you believe about you?

Think of a time when you used the Word of God to expose a lie.

Affirm and declare these statements:

I no longer believe the lies.

I no longer let lies come from my mouth.

I am an overcomer.

Pray in petition to God to pursue His will and way.

À propos de ce plan

Lies

It's a dangerous habit to lie. We can get caught in a vicious cycle of perpetuating lies that point the finger in our faces and hinder every bit of excellence we could achieve. How do we undo the lies embedded in our minds that make us believe the worst about our own existence and identity? This plan takes a real look at lies and what we need to overcome them.
