The Way Out of AnxietyExemple
In our key verses in this devotional, the apostle Peter instructs us to “Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.”
This is not a God who just says He cares for you. This is a God who demonstrates His love for us by taking our sin, our shame, our guilt, and our punishment on Himself.
Is there a more powerful love than a God who would humble Himself, give up His glory, and pour out His life even unto death?
Friend here’s what I know to be the truest and most powerful way out of anxiety: It is to look to the Cross.
As you stand before the Cross, look at Jesus’ nail-pierced hands and remember that He has inscribed you in the palm of His hands.
As you stand before the Cross, look at the crown of thorns on Jesus’ head and remember that His thoughts toward you are more than the grains of sand.
As you stand before the Cross, hear Jesus cry: “My God, My God why have you forsaken me,” and remember that this God promises to never leave nor forsake you.
The question is, how can we not trust the One who would give up His kingship for the cross? He made Himself nothing—but He says that He will lift us up in due time.
God cares for you. And He invites you to cast your burdens on Him. The way out of anxiety is to look to the Cross.
Reflect
Have I forgotten or discounted the truth that God cares for me? Have I too quickly brushed past the gospel message that Jesus gave up His kingship for the cross so I could be saved from the penalty of my sin? Have I taken the time to simply stand before the Cross of Jesus in humility and surrender?
Lean In
Lord Jesus, The words of the old hymn ring true. When I survey that wondrous Cross on which You, the Prince of glory, died, my richest gain, I count but loss and pour contempt on all my pride. How can I dwell in anxiety when You demonstrate Your perfect love to me again and again? Amen
