Women of the Bible

Jour 19 sur 30

Bathsheba

The story about Bathsheba and King David reminds us that even those explicitly called by God can still fall into sin.

David, a great man, called by the Lord to lead His people, fell into deep sin. When he first laid his eyes on Bathsheba, the scripture tells us he sent someone to find her. It would not have been customary in those days to refuse the King’s request. However, when it is brought to King David’s attention that she is married, this does not stop him from sleeping with her.

But, David came face-to-face with His sin. Bathsheba became pregnant, and when she sent a message to David, he dug a deeper hole. He had Bathsheba's husband placed on the front line of battle and killed. Her pregnancy could have been David's chance to repent and seek reconciliation for the situation he had caused. Instead, he chose his reputation and comfort over repentance and righteousness.

1. Do you ever choose your reputation or your comfort over doing the right thing?

2. Reflect on times when you could have sought reconciliation; instead, you took the easy way out.

Prayer: Ask God to reveal areas in your life where you need to reconcile with someone. Then ask Him for the strength and wisdom to fix what He has revealed to you.
