The Heart of a Man
Think about how we were created. God scooped up some dirt, formed us, and then breathed life into us. There is something “earthy” about men, which is why we are at rest in nature. Most men long to be in nature: camping, hunting, fishing, playing sports, jogging, biking, you name it. Genesis chapter 2 is very clear that God made Adam in the wild and then placed him in the Garden of Eden. Eve was created in the garden, not Adam. Women, generally speaking, don’t like dirt under their nails or getting dirty in the woods. But as men, we crave it!
What we're getting at is this: being inside with electricity, cable, air conditioning, etc., makes us soft and overly comfortable. When we embrace uncomfortableness, we are better positioned and poised to be used by God for something Epic.
Now I’m not suggesting that if you live in a home with electricity and work in an office with internet, God can’t use you. What I am suggesting is that when God calls us into something, it is often very uncomfortable and stretches us. If like most men today, you are doing everything in your power to be comfortable, then when those tough choices, those epic callings, those uncomfortable decisions arise, it’s going to be much more difficult to say, “Yes, God, use me.” We need to be open to both big and small risks as God leads us further into the life He has for us as men.
