Deborah Knew Who Won the Battle

How could ten thousand-foot soldiers defeat an army of nine hundred chariots and thousands more soldiers? They could not! But God was with them, and He went before them. Deborah gave praise and glory to God because the victory was God’s. The ‘Song of Deborah’, one of the oldest in the Bible, says, ‘from the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. The river Kishon swept them away…’ (5:20,21a). Almighty God fought the battle as only He could. Extensive portions of the Kishon River dry up seasonally; at that particular time, the Kishon River was empty. But when Sisera’s soldiers and chariots entered the dry riverbed, the Lord unleashed earthquakes and flash floods to stop the army’s advance. And at Barak’s advance, ‘the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword…’ As the soldiers attempted to flee, the Israelites chased them down.

What battles and victories have God won in your life? Spend time today praising and bringing glory to our God – the warrior who goes into battles for and with us.

Real Hope: Lessons on Leadership Through Deborah

A series by Heidi Wysman. Israel had many judges, but one of the memorable and prominent ones was a woman named Deborah. Not only was she notable because she was a woman, a mother and a grandmother, but also because she was a woman who knew the Lord. We see through her story that she had gained great prominence, distinction and importance on her own merits of character. Her love for, and faithfulness in, her Lord was one that brought her into her destiny of greatness. This Plan looks at what we can learn about leadership from Deborah.
