A Servant's Heart

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ (Matthew 25:21 NIV)

This text should appeal to people who love the Lord. When we eventually face God, will He say this to us?! At the same time, it makes us think ... "Am I a good and reliable servant? What do I have to do before God will say this to me?"

This is about how some servants had multiplied the talents (money) they had received from their master. When reading the text, notice that the Lord says almost the same thing to the servant with 2 talents as to the servant with 5 talents. Both have doubled their talents; both are told that they are good and faithful servants.

We all receive talents we can invest in God’s Kingdom. Maybe you are convinced that you have nothing to offer. Well, scripture tells us everyone has talents – no exceptions! Really, that is the truth! You have a talent/gifting from the Lord, and whether it is big or small is not important. Be a blessing for someone, help someone, pray for the sick and needy. That is a talent that is given to all of us. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The point is that we should be committed to God according to our ability. We do not have to compare ourselves with others.

We should use what we have received from God, the gifts He gives us, for Him. And as we do this, what a wonderful promise awaits us --we are welcome to the Lord's feast! One day we will stand before Him, and what a joy it will be to hear Him say: ‘Well done, dear child! You have been a good and faithful servant, come and share your master’s happiness!’
