Real Hope: The Attributes of God

God Is Our Helper

Life can get us down, things might overwhelm us, sometimes we are weary with the trials and tribulations of the day-to-day, family relationships, work, coronavirus, pressures to be ‘right and perfect’. Pick an emoji to suit how you feel!

The Psalmist certainly is up front with his honesty about how he’s feeling, about the day-to-day and the struggles of life. He calls out to God and tells Him how he’s feeling, asks questions, and wonders what’s going on. Let me say that it is perfectly OK to call out to let God know how you’re feeling, what’s troubling you, asking why things are the way they are and that you don’t understand what’s going on.

There is a second part to the verse: we have to be prepared to listen for God’s response. It may not come as a loud voice, but it will be there. The Psalmist writes that God’s Word will strengthen him.

Here is the example – call out to God and where will we hear His response? In His Word.

No point calling out and then not bothering to do the second part – open the Bible and read it and hear what God has to say. If you’re not sure where to start, try the Psalms. These wonderful songs and poems, written so long ago, still reflect human life through all ages. So we can hang onto them today; now.

Life also brings delight, joy, pleasure and wonder. In the same way, open the Bible and listen to God, be strengthened and thank Him. The Psalms also reflect these feelings and emotions.

Go on, read them.

Real Hope: The Attributes of God

Have you ever tried to explain God to someone? Not just what He has done, but who He is. There’s so much about God that is hard to fully comprehend. He is so majestic and omnipotent that mere words sometimes don’t do Him justice. The study of God’s attributes is not just about acquainting ourselves with Him, but is about getting know Him. To build a greater relationship with Him.
