The Sandwich Generation

روز 1 از 4

The sandwich generation is a group of middle-aged adults who care for both their aging parents and their own children. It is not a specific generation or cohort in the sense of the Greatest Generation or the Baby boomer generation, but a phenomenon that can affect anyone whose parents and children need support at the same time. In today’s world 73 is not necessarily “old.” Many people in their 70s, 80s, and even into their 90s live full, active and productive lives. Yet, being 73 with dementia is a different story. Today you will meet Lynn and Kimberly. At 73, after much prayer, Kimberly’s dad moved in with Lynn, Kimberly, and their two children. It was a big decision that literally changed their lives in several ways. There were many challenges, and it was important for each family member to be on board with the decision. Their strength came from God and the foundation in Him they built into their family. God taught them love at a deeper level than they had ever experienced before.

After watching the video, answer the questions below.

  • Lynn talks about the importance of a strong foundation before bringing someone else into the home. Why do you think that makes a difference?
  • Why was it important for Lynn, Kimberly, and their two children to be on the same page?  What if they were not?
  • Whatever situation you find yourself in today, what is God teaching you?
