Through the Chaosنمونه
Can you picture yourself in the middle of a large field? Now imagine on both sides of you there are opposing armies ready for battle. Think Chronicles of Narnia or Braveheart style where they shout a battle cry and run head on toward their enemies.
In Psalm 23 it says that God prepares a feast for us in the presence of our enemies.
It is a little odd to think that Jesus would prepare a table with a feast on it when we are surrounded by enemies or chaos. One of my favorite songs is "Praise Before My Breakthrough” by Bryan and Katie Torwalt.
One lyric goes like this:
"You set a table in the middle of my war, You knew the outcome of it all. And when I thought it would never end. You said 'watch the giants fall.' ’’
This visual is so important because I think it paints a picture of the confidence we should all have in Jesus.
Imagine Jesus walking up to you and taking your hand. He then sets you down at a table with a feast on it. He has prepared a spread of your favorite foods so you are sure to enjoy. He desires to partake in this feast with you even though the war is raging around you. His desire for fellowship with us is not affected by our circumstances. And truly, our dependence on Him should be consistent throughout our circumstances as well. In fact, we truly should lean on Him more when things are chaotic.
What specific battle are you in the middle of right now?
Can you close your eyes and picture yourself at that table with the Lord? Can you imagine being surrounded by all you are at war with?
Now can you picture him say “Wait right here. I’ve got this…Sit with me. Spend time with me. Find peace with me.“
Let's accept that invitation to experience a peace that doesn’t make any sense.
God could stand in the middle of that battle scene, snap His fingers and make it all go away.
Sometimes He doesn’t though-and that’s ok.
It is time to sit with the Lord, experience His peace and protection and watch the war rage on knowing that you are in communion with the one who is in control of it all.
He’s our fiercest companion in battle and simultaneously our most tranquil refuge.
I can’t tell you which way he will show up for you today but I promise he WILL show up.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for preparing a place that I can come and meet with you in the midst of all the chaos in my life. Help me to remember to accept that daily invitation. I need you now more than ever. Thank you for providing such a stable foundation that can give me confidence when so many things in life cause me to doubt. You are my rock! In your mighty name. Amen.
