DAY 2 - Who Is My Neighbour?

Have you ever had someone ask you a loaded question?

The kind of question that evokes a response.

What about when you to a restaurant, and the waiter arrives at the table, and rehearses that polarising question … “Would you like still or sparkling water?”

It’s a big choice, but then you simply opt in with a response, “tap water please”.

In Luke 10:29, Jesus is posed with the question, “Who is my neighbour?”, a provoking & loaded question.

However, Jesus doesn’t respond with an answer, but he responds with a parable. He begins to tell the story of the Good Samaritan.

We all have neighbours, but do we have eyes to see them?

We walk past them, we scroll past them,  we send emails and text messages to them, and we sit in meetings with them. These are our neighbours who we are called to love.

While others may walk by because they may discount the potential of their position, you have a mission for your position in your neighbourhood.

John C Maxwell writes,
“You can impress people from a distance, but you can impact people in proximity”.

You have an incredible purpose to the people you are around each day — whether physically or digitally. But we can only truly impact others when we are close to them.

We live in a fast-paced society that rarely stops to listen and engage with those that we don’t usually associate with. It's truly when we decide to stop and engage in conversation with those around us, we begin to realise that we have the power to impact those in proximity to us.

Question:

Who is someone in your neighbourhood that you could have a conversation with today, that you wouldn’t usually engage with? How can you listen & learn something new from them today?

Prayer:

Dear Jesus. I pray that you would give me eyes to see my neighbours today. I pray that your Holy Spirit will help guide me engaging with a conversation today. Amen.

The Neighbourhood

You have more influence than you realise in your neighbourhood. We are all part of a neighbourhood in society – whether you are an architect, teacher, student, nurse or entrepreneur. We each have a voice that can bring change to our neighbourhoods. You're not just in a career, you're now in your calling. The Neighbourhood is a new program from Hillsong Young Adults.
