Born for Such a Time as This!

DAY 4 OF 6

Understanding Your Timing and Purpose

Key Verse: Esther 4:14 –"If you keep silent at this time, liberation and deliverance will come to the Jewish people from another place, but you and your father’s house will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

Recognizing Your Purpose in God’s Timing

Do you truly understand the timing and purpose of your life? If you don’t, the calling God has placed on you may be at stake—not just for you, but for your family, your legacy, and the generations to come. Your decisions today will shape the future.

The story of Esther gives us a powerful example of divine positioning and obedience. Set during the rule of King Xerxes, Esther’s account unfolds during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah. It is a remarkable testimony of God’s timely deliverance for His people.

The Enemy’s Plot – A Battle Beyond What We See

Esther’s story is not just an ancient narrative; it reflects the ongoing spiritual battles we face today. Haman, a high-ranking official, sought to destroy the Jewish people—a direct attack on God’s plan. Similarly, the enemy continues to orchestrate attacks against us, seeking to derail our purpose. However, greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world! When we recognize this, we can rise and walk boldly in our calling.

Mordecai’s Response – A Call to Action

Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, was not passive in the face of this crisis. He tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and publicly mourned the decree to destroy the Jews.

Esther 4:1-3–"When Mordecai learned all that had occurred, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, went into the middle of the city, and cried loudly and bitterly. He only went as far as the King’s Gate, since the law prohibited anyone wearing sackcloth from entering. In every province where the king’s command reached, the Jewish people fasted, wept, and lamented; many lay on sackcloth and ashes."

Mordecai understood that divine intervention was needed, but he also knew that God’s people had a role to play. Just like Mordecai, we must recognize when to take action and when to intercede.

Esther’s Initial Hesitation – A Reflection of Our Own Fears

When Esther learned of Mordecai’s distress, she hesitated. Her response was one of self-preservation:

  • "I can’t approach the king unless I’m summoned."
  • "If I go without permission, I could die."
  • "Surely, I’m safe in the palace."

How often do we hesitate in our own faith? We might be secure in Christ, but what about those who are lost? Do we remain silent, thinking we are safe while others struggle?

A Wake-Up Call – Recognizing the Bigger Picture

Esther believed she was above the threat—protected within the palace. But Mordecai’s response was a wake-up call:

Esther 4:13-14–"Don’t think that you will escape the fate of all the Jews because you are in the king’s palace. If you keep silent at this time, deliverance will come from another place, but you and your father’s house will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

This is a message to us as well. God places us in specific places to bring about His plans. If we fail to act, God’s work will still be accomplished—but we may miss the opportunity of a lifetime. More than that, our hesitation could have real consequences.

Walking in Purpose – The Courage to Stand

God’s plan for deliverance didn’t come through signs and wonders like in the exodus. Instead, He worked through a courageous woman willing to risk everything. God is calling us to be like Esther.

  • He positions us where we are for a reason.
  • Our calling is bigger than our comfort.
  • If we stay silent, we could miss our purpose.

Final Challenge: Will You Accept the Call?

Just as Mordecai urged Esther to step into her calling, today God is urging you to step into yours. Will you take a stand? Will you risk comfort for obedience? Will you speak when it matters most?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me for such a time as this. Give me the courage to walk in my purpose, even when it requires faith and risk. Help me to recognize the opportunities You have placed before me and to act with boldness, knowing that You have positioned me for Your divine plan. Let me not shrink back in fear, but step forward in faith, trusting that You are working behind the scenes for deliverance and victory. Use me, Lord, to fulfill Your will in my generation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
