The Way to Follow Jesus According to the Gospel of LukeSample
Day 3 – Luke 3
Baptized with Fire
Is there a presumption that because you call yourself a Christian, you have a religious status that is above reproach and guarantees you that all is well?
At the river Jordan, John the Baptist called out the “religious” crowds and warned them that unless they repented and produced good fruit, they would be cut off. He was relentless in preaching the truth as a way of preparing people’s hearts for the Messiah who would baptize them with the fire of the Holy Spirit.
There are at least two take-aways that we should note:
1. We need to acknowledge our sin, repent and obey God’s ways.
2. We need to acknowledge that apart from Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit at work within us, we won’t produce good fruit.
If you have come to the place in life where you know that you know, you are a sinner in need of forgiveness and that Jesus redeemed you by His death and resurrection, then you can have His Spirit living inside of you.
Like John you will want to prepare the way for others to hear the message of Jesus and abandon their religiosity to instead follow the Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Have you fully repented, received the forgiveness of Jesus and been baptized with the fire of His Holy Spirit so that you can produce good fruit?
If not, will you do it right now? Just talk to God in your own words and believe He hears you and will help you make things right.
