The Relationship Decision: Improving Connections
Building strong relationships takes effort, but there are simple steps we can take to improve our connections with others.
- First, be intentional. Relationships don’t just happen—make time to reach out to others, whether it’s a neighbor, mutual friend, or someone at church.
- Second, be vulnerable. Real connections happen when you share your struggles and hopes with trusted people.
- Third, be a servant leader. Look for ways to help others without expecting anything in return. Serving others often meets our own needs as well.
- Fourth, forgive. Relationships involve imperfect people, and choosing to forgive is key to moving forward.
Remember the Golden Rule? "Do to others as you would have them do to you." When we focus on others and make more deposits than withdrawals in our relationships, we create an atmosphere of love and care.
Reflection: How can you be more intentional in building relationships this week? Are you the friend you want others to be to you?
