Living in Christ: Embracing the Life God Has for YouSample
Have you ever seen a wealthy person who just wasn't satisfied with what she has?
As rich as that person is, she simply can't rest. No mind-boggling net worth is quite enough. Or how about an athlete who has won maybe multiple championships? Maybe it's the best player in the game. Maybe the best player ever. And in an interview, he says he's not satisfied. Maybe we see this athlete playing well past his prime when he should have retired because he just can't let go. He's still missing something.
I think these are two symptoms of the same common human condition. These are reflections that many of us feel an incompleteness about who we are and what we've achieved. I mean, it's tragic, really.
Instead of us enjoying what few people will ever enjoy, we kind of lament and agonize over what we're missing when it comes to following Christ. We never have to experience this though, because we're complete in Christ.
We're fully loved by God because of Jesus. We're fully accepted by God because of Jesus. And in Jesus, we're positionally fully who we're made to be so we can rest knowing we're enough because Jesus is enough.
Now, that doesn't mean we can't still yearn to grow and work to grow. But we do that as we find joy in our unwavering identity, knowing that even when we fall short, God's limitless grace is right there for us.
- What does the world say a person has to be or achieve to be “complete”?
- In what way do you need to rest in Christ today, knowing you’re complete?
