Have you ever had to carry a heavy weight? Maybe a weighted-down backpack through the halls of your school, a full backpack for a hike, or your baby in a car seat with all their stuff. If you have, then you know just how quickly that weight can start to… weigh you down! It may start easy to hold, but over time, it gets heavier and heavier and heavier. So much so that you eventually have to put it down and take a break. And when you do, picking it back up is that much harder!
Similarly, the weight of our burdens can feel so heavy. The stresses, worries, hardships, feelings, and challenges we hold on to in life can weigh us down quickly. That’s because we’re not meant to carry them on our own! Thankfully, we have access to Jesus, who offers to hold the weight of everything for us. When we give Him our burdens, we receive the greatest gift in return: rest for our weary souls. Does that mean we’ll never face difficult circumstances or struggle with burdens again? Unfortunately not! But it does mean that when the load gets too heavy for us to hold, we can always find rest and grace in giving it over to Jesus.
This week, work on memorizing this verse. Say it as a prayer when you need the reminder that you can sit down the weight you’re carrying and find deep rest in Jesus.

About this Plan

Few things in life are more important than breathing. It’s what keeps us going and living. This isn’t a devotional on the science of breathing. Instead, we’re talking about what it looks like to create breathing room in parts of our everyday lives. From faith to finances to friendship to so much more, we’re diving into the benefits of slowing down, pausing, and giving these areas of our lives room to breathe.
