31 Values to Pray for Your Kids

DAY 9 OF 31

Respect for Self, Others, and Authority

As parents, we deeply desire our children to develop a robust and respectful character. They should respect themselves, others, and those in authority. We pray this character will hold fast in them in a world that does not emphasize respect; by doing so, they will honor God in all they do.

In 1 Peter 2:17, we are called to show proper respect to everyone. We want our children to treat all people with dignity and kindness, recognizing the inherent value in every person as created in God's image; their respect for others begins with a genuine love and concern for their well-being.

Romans 13:1 reminds us that all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority are there by His appointment. We hope our children will understand the importance of respecting and submitting to authority, whether it be parents, teachers, or government leaders. This respect acknowledges God's sovereign order and purpose.

In Matthew 22:15-22, Jesus teaches about giving to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's, demonstrating respect for earthly and divine authority. We pray that our children will develop a balanced understanding of their responsibilities to human authorities and their ultimate accountability to God. May they respect the rules and laws of society while keeping their highest allegiance to God's commandments.

Pray:

Father, in Jesus’ name, we lift our children to you, asking that you instill a deep sense of respect in them. Help them to honor themselves as your beloved creations, to treat others with kindness and dignity, and to respect the authorities you have placed in their lives. May they understand that genuine respect reflects your love and order. Guide them to show proper respect in all their interactions and to live in a way that brings glory to your name. We pray in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
