Passion for God

One of the greatest desires we can pass on to our children is a passion for pursuing God. This is a burning desire to know Him intimately and walk closely with Him daily. It is easy to be distracted by competing priorities, but when we model a passion for God to our kids, it stands as a call to prioritize Him as the essential relationship in our lives.

In Psalm 63:8, David declares, "My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me." This captures the passion for God, to have a soul that clings to Him in fervent devotion and trust. As we teach our children to seek God with all their hearts, souls, and minds, we empower them to experience the depth of intimacy that comes from knowing Him completely.

Psalm 42:1-2 expresses the longing of the psalmist's heart: "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God." This reflects the deep hunger and thirst for God that should be in our hearts, a longing that can only be satisfied by drawing near Him in intimate fellowship and communion. As our children discover this longing, we awaken their hearts to the joy and fulfillment of experiencing God's presence.

In Luke 18:16-43, we encounter various individuals exhibiting a different passion for God. From the childlike faith of the little children to the persistent faith of the blind beggar, each person's encounter with Jesus reveals the transformative power of passion for God. Their examples inspire us and our children to approach God with childlike faith, trusting His goodness and faithfulness to meet our every need.

Pray:

Father, in Jesus’ name, we come before you with hearts full of gratitude for the gift of intimacy and communion with you. We pray for our children that you would ignite within them a passionate pursuit of you, a burning desire to know you intimately, and to walk closely with you every day.

Grant them the grace to cling to you with all their heart, soul, and mind, trusting your right hand to uphold them in every circumstance. May they thirst for you like a deer pants for streams of water, longing to experience the depth of intimacy and fellowship that comes from knowing you.

Help them to approach you with childlike faith and unwavering persistence, trusting in your goodness and faithfulness to meet their every need. May their lives be a testament to the transformative power of passion for you, drawing others into a relationship with you and inspiring them to pursue you with all their heart. We pray in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
