31 Values to Pray for Your Kids

DAY 20 OF 31

Compassion

If we want our children to grow in favor with God and others, we need to help them cultivate a heart of compassion. This heart mirrors the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. Where they see indifference and apathy, the call to compassion is a beacon of hope, offering healing and restoration.

In Colossians 3:12, we are encouraged to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. This verse reminds us that compassion is not merely an emotion but a deliberate choice, an intentional response to the needs and suffering of others.

1 Peter 3:8 urges us to be compassionate and humble, to love one another deeply, and to show hospitality to others without grumbling. This challenges us to cultivate compassion beyond superficial gestures to demonstrate genuine care and concern for those around us. As we model compassion for our children, we inspire them to follow in our footsteps, reaching out to the marginalized and the oppressed with love and grace.

In Mark 1:40-45, we encounter the powerful story of Jesus healing a man with leprosy. Despite the social stigma surrounding leprosy, where no one would have touched him in years, Jesus is moved with compassion and reaches out to touch the man, restoring him to wholeness. Jesus could have simply spoken to the man to heal him. Instead, Christ chose to touch him because the man needed physical interaction. His example challenges us to break down barriers and extend compassion to the marginalized or overlooked.

Pray:

Father, in Jesus’ name, we come before you with hearts full of gratitude for the compassion you have shown us through your Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that you would fill our children with a deep and abiding sense of compassion that reflects your love and mercy to a hurting world.

Grant them the grace to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience as they seek to follow in the footsteps of your Son. May they love one another profoundly, showing hospitality to others without grumbling, and may their lives be a testament to the transformative power of compassion.

Help them emulate the compassion of Jesus as they reach out to the marginalized and the oppressed with love and grace. May their hearts be open to the needs and suffering of others, and may they be agents of healing and restoration in a broken world. We pray in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
