Make A Place To Pray
Many times we may think that we do not need to pray. We’ve stored up enough prayers to last us for a while. We prayed in church last Sunday, we prayed in our Bible study a few days ago, and we prayed last evening before putting the children to bed. Surely, that’s enough, right? We don’t need to call on God again; we already left a few messages earlier this week.
Here in this passage though, we see the Son of God, Jesus, praying to His father in Heaven. If anyone could use the excuse not to pray, it would be Jesus. Yet amazingly, he knows that he needs to. Jesus exemplified prayer in his own life by making places to pray.
One of HOPE’s microfinance clients, a school director, in the Dominican Republic (DR) has an orange tree that she goes and sits underneath when she feels the need to pray. She makes no announcement to her students or teachers; she just goes and sits and prays.
Think of a place where you can go and pray. Leave your computer and your phone far away, and return to that spot. Quiet your thoughts. Turn your attention to the Lord, and be still in His presence. Pray to your Heavenly father in the same way that Jesus did.
Prayer: Father, teach me to pray. Help me to be still in your presence today and to listen to your voice.
