Sorry, I Changed

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4- WHAT IT’S LIKE

AARON: Making this song took a lot out of me. Keeping with the theme of earlier songs, I talk about loss, trusting people, and my journey, and how it affected my life and my faith. If you’ve listened to my music many of you know my parents and family have been key parts in my life and my career and I wouldn’t be where I’m at without my mom and dad’s support and love. My parents divorced a few years back and though they’ve never left my side I would be lying if I said it didn’t affect me. My pops, who is super involved in my career and life, kind of hit rock bottom and started dealing with regret, and suicidal thoughts, and battled with his faith while I was making this album and it took a toll on me. that changed me in ways I would never have imagined. To be real, it took everything in me to trust God through this. Like God, “Why would this happen to me? Why would this happen to the people I love?”.

EJ: I can relate to the struggles Aaron just stated, my parents went through a divorce when I was in college, and it is one of the things that led me to Jesus. About two years ago, I lost my father to leukemia and my wife lost her father to a massive heart attack–four months apart. This was tough! But we all have a story, right? The beautiful thing is that Jesus can relate–let me explain.

Hebrews 2:18 states “Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing; he is able to help us when we are being tested”. That’s right our Lord experienced the pain that we experience daily. This is what makes him stand apart from all the other “gods”. He humbled himself and put on flesh when he didn’t have to. Philippians 2:6-8 states that “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a servant and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross”. Did you catch that? Jesus CHOSE to suffer for us even though he didn’t have to. He CHOSE to set his position at the right hand of the Father to come and reconcile His creation back to their Creator. Lastly, he CHOSE to feel the pains of our humanity–every ounce of it. That is what I call true love! I don’t know about you, but I can speak for Aaron and myself, we most definitely wouldn’t willingly accept the hardship we have faced in our lives, but I’m glad we have a Jesus that did.

Reflection:

Listen to the song “WHAT IT’S LIKE” and reflect on this question:

1) After realizing that Jesus has experienced pain and suffering like us, how does that shift your mindset on how to overcome your struggles?
