Sorry, I Changed

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1 - Two Cents

AARON: When I wrote this song, I had just lost my grandma and a couple of other loved ones; I was also in the middle of record deal conversations, still getting adjusted to marriage and reflecting on my career–the places I've been, the pain and dedication it took to get where I’m at today. What I realized is that everyone can’t go where God is taking me and while losing friends, fans, and connections can be painful; it’s worth it with God by my side. For this song particularly, it was important for me to share my weaknesses and struggles because I feel like Christians tend to shy away from being vulnerable about their weakness but what I realized is that when we are vulnerable it allows God to move in our lives more.

EJ: When Aaron told me about his heart for this song I immediately began to think about the Apostle Paul, formerly known as Saul of Tarsus. Paul was a Pharisee (Jewish leader), during the times of Jesus. He arrested, tortured, and persecuted anyone that affiliated themselves with Jesus; let’s just say Paul “was bout that life”. Anyways, Paul had an experience on the road to Damascus with Jesus that forever changed him. After some time, Jesus tells Paul to go and proclaim (preach) the Gospel (Good News) to the Gentiles (non-Jews). Paul then went on to write ⅓ of the New Testament, establish the church, and lead many to Jesus and it could be argued that he was the most impactful Apostle.

With all this being said, what we want you to capture is simply this: God can and will take anyone from a place of brokenness and rebellion to a place of wholeness and restoration in Him.

We hope you enjoy the rest of this devotional as we try to give you some tools to navigate the struggles of this thing we call Life.

Reflection:

Listen to the song “Two Cents” and reflect on this question:

1) Where in your life do you feel like God is calling to change?
