Trust in the Lord Alone
Often, when we face a difficult situation or desperately need something, it is in our human nature to try and solve it ourselves. We may say that we’ve surrendered everything into God’s hands, but we still interfere and try to do things on our own. We often resort to the ways of the world and rely on our own strength. Finally, we blame God when things don’t happen our way.
Abraham too was much like us. He believed God to give him the son that He had promised, but later took things in his own hands and bore a son, Ishmael, with Hagar his wife’s maid. That was not God’s plan. Abraham later trusted in the Lord and eventually, God kept His promise. At the age of 100, God gave Abraham a son, Isaac. This happened only after he completely left the matter in God’s hand without interfering. He trusted in the Lord alone and he did not lean on his own understanding. Similarly, if we learn to trust God without trying to solve things our way, we allow God to do His work and bring His plans to pass in our lives. And His plans are always good!
Let us not miss the second half of Proverbs 3:5, which tells us not to lean on our own understanding. Trust in the Lord alone; nothing else and no one else can do what He can do. He is able to do the impossible. He alone can turn our mourning into dancing. He alone can calm our storms!
Prayer
Father God, help me to trust in You alone. In my own strength, I can do nothing. But through You, I can do all things. Amen.
